Since the supplemental essays for UMich Ann Arbor are quite complex, and are non- standard in that these essay topics do not ask you either about your short-term career goals or long-term career goals, They call for intense additional introspection and meticulous planning on your part. You will first need to define your career goals upfront and THEN talk about how the people you know (one person only), and the places you have visited, (one place only), have influenced your career journey or its choice. The same thing applies to experiences or aspirations. Limit yourself to three impacts since this is a short form essay.

Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?* 550 words
UMich essays, both at the UG and PG levels, are usually “trick” essays. Here the question that is being asked is NOT about the entire university but the college in which you will study.
Be very specific about the school’s name, the department’s name, and the exact name of your major right down to the track. There is no room for generalities here.
Mention the name of one professor whose research aligns with your area of research interest during your undergraduate degree. Explain WHY you would want to conduct research under him or her. This is your final choice college selection. Therefore, mention the names of at least two courses that resonate with you.
Essentially, UMich wants to learn more about the passion behind the college, degree, and career choices. If you are planning to pursue a double major, explain why. Write about the motivation and the anticipated milestone you hope to achieve.

This is a super competitive school and hence the essays need to be first rate. Professors read the essays also at UMich, especially the named professor. Read one of his publications if you can and talk about it. How did his research paper ignite your interest?
